“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
We are all servants; we are all slaves. So why do we consider ourselves to be of high prestige or high position? The Lord has assigned each of us a task and we are merely His workmen. We are nothing more than planters and waterers, but God is the Grower, the Cultivator, and the Sustainer. We have purpose in this life and in our labor, and we shall be rewarded according to what we do. But what does it matter? It is for His glory, His kingdom, and His renown. By the grace that He gives we get to be His fellow workers and His field. We have a foundation that is laid in Jesus Christ and if we build upon that with any earthly thing it will be shown for what it is. A day will come and it will be revealed by fire, which will test the quality of each man’s work. If what we build survives, then we will receive our reward. If it burns up, then we shall suffer loss; we will be saved, but only as those escaping the flames. So take your task, use your temple, and build upon your foundation, but as you do it look towards the work of the kingdom, look towards the things of God, and look towards what is everlasting. What will be left standing for you when the flames come?
